“NUJUM PA’ BELALANG” / FORTUNE TELLER PA’ BELALANG CONCEPT

A visual development/pitch bible of a Malay folk tale based in a fantasy setting. It revolves around the smart protagonist, Belalang, and his lazy father, Pak Belalang, and their whimsical journey of pretending to be a fortune teller for the King, which ends up favoring the both of them. It's a classic retelling based on the movie, Nujum Pa' Belalang by P.Ramlee, a famous Malaysian director, actor, and musician.

“I've always wanted to share my culture and heritage with the world, there's almost no kind of media in regards to my culture outside of Malaysia. I would love to have more fantasy based children's shows/comics to share my love for science fiction and fantasy based settings. I am passionate about this because I find Malay folk tales very touching, and something everyone should see and know. Most Malay folk tales are really sad, but come with a moral or lesson in return. I love this story the most because of how dream-like and surreal the folk tale is. I also love how the main character in the story helps his father become a better person and get them a better life and happiness that they deserve. There's a certain charm in Malay folk tales that need to be retold and spread around, and combining my love for fantasy and my culture, I would love to bring these two together in a passionate personal project.”

Background concepts for “nujum pa’ belalang”

“drop dead gorgeous’ concept

Drop Dead is an animated series depicting the lives of assassin super models, rated TV MA, for young adult audiences. It stars the main character, Miah, a fledgling supermodel at the height of her career as she rises further up the chain of popularity. She’s a confident woman with an undying perseverance, which helped her catapult her career. However, she crosses the line once she’s reached international fame, which is when the 12 Top Elite Assassin’s emerge from the shadows and begin plotting ways to kill her off and claim her fame for their own, all while being broadcasted live to an underground channel known as “Drop Dead Gorgeous” (DDG). Drop Dead Gorgeous is a show where the top elite models have to (literally) fight for their place in the supermodel world and claim their rank. A higher rank means more fame and power. She soon makes swift rivals with her first opponent, Syi, a fierce and deadly veteran assassin who competes with Miah for the top spot. She lets her live their first encounter, which acts as the catalyst to the story. While the two operate separately, the goal remains the same; to rise to the top, and eliminate the multi-billion-dollar supermodels that have controlled these games for decades. Above them stands a woman, Zikahariah who has controlled, not just the fashion industry, but the way the world is designed itself. She’s an old billionaire beauty that is responsible for the start of DDG as an entertainment for the rich and powerful. She is also the most destructive and powerful woman known across the world. While her tactics are cruel, her skills in assassination are mesmerizing, captivating her audience as she spills the blood of her victims. With every movement she makes, the world watches and takes notes as being strong and willing to fight for your place in the supermodel industry is the only way to be the number one supermodel in this world.
